The good:
The interior space is just a huge rectangle, no wasted space. So good for you to adjust how you pack your items.
Price is good for what you get. Cheap.
Top pockets are good for access little trinkets or rainfly.
Hidden pocket on the inside flap is great for passports money, docs, etc.
Great back ventilation.
I found I can put my microsoft surface inside the camelback sleeve and its perfect to protect it with the separated back panel and easier access for taking it out.
The lockable zippers on the main pocket are money.
I've permanently mounted my sleeping bag comp sack to the exterior bottom straps and it balances the pack when I put it down. Without this the bag falls over.
Front zip pocket great for books or grocery bag quick access.
Huge main pocket super nice to be able to go diving into a tightly packed pack for something buried without having to unpack the whole thing.
The Bad: The quality of this pack relative to my Atmos is not good, very cheap materials where they skimped and you feel robbed. Example is the stretch side water bottle pocket materials is not good on this pack but perfect with stretch mesh on the Atmos. Struggle to get the water bottle out with this one but so perfectly engineered with the Atmos.
The hip belt pockets on this are god awful. Simply need to be big enough to fit your iphone but they aren't and it's maddening. Again, backtracking because Atmos does fit them.
The comfort in hiking is ok, not uncomfortable but not as good as the Atmos. If you load over 35 lbs you will not be feeling good with the shoulder straps and focus points of tension on the hips and lower back.
The interior compression straps are so cheaply made and in the wrong direction you wont use them, or you'll tear the stitching on them trying to get them to do their job.
The packed in load will sometimes press into your back through the separated back panel and dig into during the hiking.
My recommendations to take this pack into something I would continue to wear as I Thru Hike and Backpack:
Overall make the hip belt and stretch pockets useful following the Atmos designs and materials. Bigger hip belt pockets to fit your phone, Stretch mesh water bottle pockets for better hiking access.
The nifty interior pocket can be put on the roof of the main section and you can remove the compression straps inside, it's just unnecessary materials. At the very least, bulk the straps up so they aren't laughably useless.
If the UNLTD suspension system is available for implementation, do it. The pack could use this upgrade for comfortability. This would remove the comfort issues when hiking for sure.
Essentially take the atmos and make a lockable zipper on a big accessible pocket instead of the drawstring top.
Buy the atmos..
This is not a daypack. It is not a summit pack. This is for carrying a large amount of stuff comfortably and keeping it organized. It has straps and fasteners - internal and external - everywhere it should to allow access and keep stuff together. The material is light but seems sturdy. The zippers have pulls that will work when your fine motor control is shot.
The unit is also very comfortable. There is padding and mesh everywhere there should be to prevent chafing and over-pressure. The hip and shoulder suspension system distributes weight well, and the mesh panel permits sweat to evaporate. An internal pocket and convenient hole for my Camelback bladder and tube is a very nice change from other packs I've owned.
And then there are the things you just wouldn't think of. Chief among these is a cover and handle so the pack can be safely covered up and used as a piece of luggage on a plane or train. Excellent foresight.
So, I've ditched my old pack and am going with this one. Well done, Osprey.
